"Being a keen athlete and martial artist throughout most of my life, but a dislike for the gym has played a key role in the direction I have chosen to take with my personal training...."
I started Judo at 8 years of age and continued to train throughout my teens up until the basketball craze of the late 80's/early 90's took hold and the hoops became a passion. The lure of martial arts came calling again in my early 20's when for two and a half years I travelled to study American Kenpo karate. This led to a 7 year stint a little closer to home in Kempo Karate where I eventually earned a 2nd dan. My initial black belt grading really taught me what my body was capable of after a gruelling 13 hour grading.
My passion for the arts dwindled a little so I took some time off and took up triathlon. Competing in many races ranging from sprint distance to half ironman with many finishes being in the top quarter of my age group. I was never the best athlete but always pushed through the pain, my two half ironman races (1.9km swim, 90km bike, 21.1km run) being lessons in never giving up. My first was in Shepparton in 43 degree heat with the smoky haze of bush fires added in for good measure with cramps and intestinal issues adding to the joys of the day. My second in Geelong was going well until I blew up at the 75km mark of the bike ride. I slowly made my way into transition where I had to work out a way of putting my shoes on without bending my legs due to cramps. I got them on and suffered through the half marathon with no thoughts of ever giving up.
The martial arts bug started to bite again so I travelled to Adelaide in 2008 and gained my level 1 instructors certification in Jim Wagners Reality Based Personal Protection. Upon returning to Melbourne I started training with Wayne Ardley of Juggernaut MMA in Self Defence and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am an instructor in the Juggernaut Self Defence System and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Focusing on kettlebells and odd objects such as battling ropes, sledgehammers, sandbags and medicine balls is something I decided to do for a number of reasons. First of all I know I am not the only one who finds regular gym training boring but also the benefits of using odd objects far outweigh that of regular weights for the regular person. They not only build muscle density and increase strength but they offer strength and stabily though movements that are very similar to those we all perform everyday of our lives. A majority of them put constant stress on the core which is something that regular weight training simply doesn't do. How many times have you heard of someone doing their back just bending over?? If these movements are practiced with various objects and through fun exrcises that also give you a great cardio workout at the same time, then you kill 2 or 3 birds with 1 stone. People also hate doing core specific exercises but if you are constantly using the core then less of the core specific exercises are needed.
Boxing/kickboxing workouts are something I also love doing. Not only will you get fit your ability to strike will actually improve adding an extra string to your bow, improving your ability to defend yourself.
I do also do regular weight training but hey, so does everyone!
I am fully mobile so I can come to you or you can come to me.

HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training)
A 30 minute workout consisting of a warm up, 3x4 minute intervals consisting of 8 rounds of 20 seconds exercise (FLAT OUT!!!) and ten seconds rest. That's 12 minutes of fat smashing exercise followed by a cool down and stretching. Interval training of this nature can burn up to 9 times the calories of regular aerobic training for 75% of the time. So lack of time is no longer an excuse not to work out!!
